AUGUST
ARTISTS OF THE MONTH

EMERALD ARTIST OF AUGUST
JENNIFER DOWD
"Butterfly View" - Photography

"Photography is a way for me to practice meditation and heal my soul.
It allows my creativity to take flight." -- JENNIFER DOWD

CRYSTAL ARTIST OF AUGUST
AARON KRONE
"Passive/Aggressive" - Graphite and charcoal

“My portraiture style is a realistic approach to depicting the human form.  I include fine detail and subtle expressions in order to attempt a high degree of realism.  Even though the image is realistic, I try to give the person a deeper content so that the viewer can make assumptions about the sitters based on the way they are presented.  With graphite and charcoal, I create soft shading by using a combination of drawing, brushing and erasing to get subtle effects, particularly in drawings of the human face.”
-- AARON KRONE

RUBY ARTIST OF AUGUST
NELL-LYNN PERERA
**CRYSTAL ARTIST OF THE YEAR 2022**
"Mystic" - Watercolour

“As a Chromesthete, I’m only aware of what’s before me.  I paint unconsciously emotions derived from a single piece of music which I listen to on loop while painting.  The music tells me what to do rather than my hands and my mind.  Colours and movement which I see and feel from that piece of music are translated onto paper or canvas.  I insist on not adhering to conformity in every aspect of my life and I challenge myself to explore new methods in abstract painting.  My favourite media are watercolour and acrylic.  Both offer me different challenges and different ways of painting.  My work has evolved over the years, giving me that freedom which I seek from life.  This is how I've continued to stay true to myself without allowing others to dictate my work.  While I paint, I lose myself and my ego which I find self-liberating.” -- NELL-LYNN PERERA

SAPPHIRE ARTIST OF AUGUST
JOHN DIEPHOUSE
"Dreaming Of The Return" - Digital collage

“I am attracted to a wide variety of subjects ranging from natural landscapes, botanicals and wildlife to images that provide either abstract expression or social commentary.   I am interested in sharing images that evoke a story of some kind.  Images may be simply documentary, reflect a sense of time and place or resonate on a more abstract level of color, shape or form.  Others provoke an indefinable question that does not readily yield answers without further study and reflection.  Most recently I have begun exploring digital collages as a means of expression.” -- JOHN DIEPHOUSE
