MAY
ARTISTS OF THE MONTH

SAPPHIRE ARTIST OF MAY
ROBERT BOLLA
"Death Valley Dry Lake" - Photography

"Photography is my novel or story written for the viewer's imagination.  At the same time, it is my voice to make comments on the relationship of the arts to science.  When I look at a landscape, I try to gather a story about how the landscape evolved or how it changes based on science.  Often, I challenge the viewer to see how climate affects what they see.  A dry lake asks the question when in history did water carve the valley.  A storm asks about the need for water to survive." -- ROBERT BOLLA

CRYSTAL ARTIST OF MAY
LIANE BEDARD
"Idle Pursuits" - Transparent watercolour

"My work reflects the impermanence of life.  It is reflected in the choice of subject matter and with the capture of fleeting landing points of light.  What is, is only temporary and my work pushes pause as the glorious light moves through our day." -- LIANE BEDARD

RUBY ARTIST OF MAY
ROBERT PEACHEY
"Symphony" - Watercolour

"I enjoy exploring and celebrating the landscape that many walk by without notice.  Symphony is a roadside pond that collects the leaves of fall and creates wonderful patterns and invites the viewer into the sensory experience of decaying leaves.  In this composition I have brought the viewer into the painting on the left side and treated the leaves as a musical score with rhythm, with the size and color of the leaves, to provide crescendo." -- ROBERT PEACHEY

EMERALD ARTIST OF MAY
MARGARET WASIUTA
SAPPHIRE ARTIST OF THE YEAR 2021
"Serenity" - Acrylic

"My work "Serenity" simply reflects my longing for something unspecified and unattainable… something that was always missing and for which my longing has been intensified over the last few years.  Looking for the purest sound, this multi-layered mix of structural space attempts to integrate geometric and organic forms into a calm dreamscape without borders." -- MARGARET WASIUTA
